K and I went to Vienna for my bithday. It started out as a cheap long weekend away, but then we found there was a ball at the Hofburg (what was the Emporer's palace, and is now the official residence of the President of Austria), so we decided to glam it up. K packed a ballgown in her rucksack, and I packed my tux in mine, and we waltzed (well, K waltzed, I shuffled) the night away. As we had our posh clothes with us we went to the opera the next day, and watched The Magic Flute in the Vienna State Opera building, which is where it was first produced. Then, back to our normal lives, we had a day attempting to ski, with mixed results. I never got his name, but thanks to the Austrian chap who got fed up of watching me wuss around at the top of the slope, and gave me a good push with the advice 'don't be so scared', and sent me off down the slope.
