About Wantok

What is Wantok?

Well, the word means "close friend or relative" in Tok Pisin, one of the lingua francas of Papua New Guinea, the island I lived on until I was 16. It was there I got my first camera, a cheap, plastic, fixed focus, point and shoot that someone was throwing out. It did me well for a couple of years, but I then moved on to a Praktica SLR. I now live in Cheltenham, England, on the edge of the Cotswolds, and mainly use a Canon digital SLR, but I still count Papua New Guinea as home, and still long for the freedom and beauty it provided.

What does Wantok do?

I guess the easy answer is "the things I enjoy doing". I enjoy taking photos. I enjoy trying to find beauty in the ordinary and attempting to capture the extraordinary. I enjoy travelling, whether it be to beaches or mountains. I enjoy writing about my trips, and sharing them with others. I have had photos and articles published in magazines (including travel and car magazines), and have been commissioned for a varierty of things from promotional photos for plays to an enthusiast's classic car. My work can be found displayed on the walls of offices and homes, and will be displayed in the Link Gallery in Cheltenham Gallery in 2008.
